'This website is so much easier to study. Not only that even though you have wrong answers it'll highlight the right answers and at the bottom it explains why. I did the first 2 last year which I failed both and twice this year. This 4th time around I got it and passed the test. 4 out of 40 questions.' Maria Vanessa H., Honolulu, Hawaii 'My driver's written exam consisted of 30 questions. I took the test yesterday and passed.
It is tricky in some places. If you don't study, you won't pass. I pointed out to the examiner lady that one of the speed limit numbers was switched; in comparing the book question with the test question.
She laughed and told me to pay my 5 dollars for passing the test. The more you fail, the more money the state makes. Study the book and do the online quizzes.' Sam I., Pearl City, Hawaii 'I just moved to Hilo from California and I have not taken a written test in 27 years!
Some of the rules have changed, and some of Hawaii's rules are a bit different than California, so the tests were helpful in helping me prepare for the DMV test. Austempering Martempering Pdf Merge here. I read through the 140 page handbook, but taking repetitive tests was far easier. I took the test in the handbook, all 170+ questions only to find out they don't give you the answers, you have to look each one up!
This is WAY easier as you can go back to the questions you miss and try them again. Practice makes perfect!' Laura Owens, Hilo, Hawaii.

If you're still having trouble, check out. You can also search near a city, place, or address instead. I didn't pass my first one at Dillingham but I did the second time.
The instructors were both really nice to me and we talked story. I didn't pass was because I was at the intersection (going to make a left turn at the light) and there were people crossing the street where I was turning to. I waited and then I started to turn the wheel (my foot was still on the brake) and the instructor failed me because he said that I shouldn't have turned the wheel until the people were halfway across the crosswalk regardless if my foot was on the brake or not. So that was a lesson learned. Make sure you adjust your mirrors correctly, seat belt, make a full stop before the stop sign (I had points taken off because I stopped right at the sign) and go within the speed limit.
I actually took the exam a while ago, almost 7 years ago. Both routes were different, depending on the instructor. As Eric suggested, go driving in the area. Go at night if you dont want to hit traffic and if you want to get familiar with the area but also try at least one during the day so you get a feel for the traffic and there's construction on some streets. We did 'parallel parking' by the meters by the DMV so def try that a few times.
I did a forward park bcs there were no cars there at the time. Yea, no Cali stops heehee Full stop, before the sign or else you'll get points taken off.:) hope this helps! It took me three times before I finally passed, all three times were done at Dillingham! When you're leaving the parking lot, at the stop sign, remember to stop completely and silently count to three before going.
Beware of bike lanes too! If the metered parkings on the side are not full, you'll be asked to parallel park. The routes are all different; it depends on who you get. If possible, definitely avoid the older Japanese lady- she's extremely strict. Remember to check in 20 minutes before your actual road test:) good luck!
I passed Dillingham on my second try. For me, it really depended on who I got as my tester. The first time I took the test, I had a really cranky lady who took of points for everything.
The second time, I had an older man, who was very nice and even tried to make small-talk during my test. I'm not saying I should've passed my first time, but it does help a lot to have a nice tester!! Anyway, good luck trying again! One of my friends took the test more than 5 times before he passed!
Try to stay calm during the test, and try to drive through Dillingham once before your actual test to get better acquainted with the roads.:) P.S. I have heard it is easier to take the test at Kapolei. Even if there are not appointments available on their site, it is possible to wait from the morning and get a same-day appointment. Of course, this varies based on how many testers are there that day and how many appointments show up! I did my second test this way though.
I waited from about 5 in the morning at Dillingham and was able to secure a test in the early afternoon. Anyway, even if it might be 'easier' to take the test at Kapolei, always be sure to practice on the roads before taking the test!
