I've heard a lot of people compare this to the Tascam, but tascam doesn't even come close to being as precise as this one!

I'll be honest, I haven't worked with many interface items, but working with this one (if it's your 1st time) you definitely can't go wrong with it. I plan to upgrade to the M-audio Fast Track Ultra in order to have more available recording inputs at a time, but this is great for now.

I normally give away my interface machines when I get a new one, but I don't think I'll get rid of this one for another 4 years. I'll sell it, because it's worth it.

If that's all you'll use it for.go for it, it's the best one out there. But keep in mind that you'll never be able to record drums or more than one instrument at once. Since it has phantom power built in and the whole thing is powered by USB, it truly is a great interface for laptop. I actually have a Studio-in-a-box at home but when I want to expand my tracking options or want to record in 24 bit on the go, this interface fills in nicely and without costing an arm and a leg.

Ideal for the solo artist, it has two balanced inputs for mics and instruments. The preamps are good and clean for such a portable box. I wished it had XLR outputs, though. On the bright side, it does have s/pidf i/o as well as a number of outputs. After loading the drivers, my laptop had no trouble finding it and all my recording software recognized it. If you are considering this unit for the software, don't do it. The software are 'teaser' editions, very limited.

It had taken some falls and no longer worked, so I needed something affordable to keep recording. I was extremely surprised at the features this interface has for the price -- MIDI ports, 2 dual XLR/1/4 inputs (so convenient), and great in/out ports all around. The quality gets the job done for a simple home studio. I have to admit though that it has LOTS of issues when using it as your soundcard and interface at the same time.

Like getting errors when you open your DAW because you had a media player open at the same time (or even having firefox open while opening your DAW gives you latency errors). Stuff like that. But at this price they're issues I can deal with. I have to disagree about this not being for serious musicians. It's a very functional recording device, maybe not of the highest quality, but if you're working with 1-2 audio tracks at a time it will get the job done. I use it for pretty much everything now. Only thing I would say bad about this is the headphone jack. When you pull your headphones out, the 1/4 connector comes out too when it used to stay in. It can't be the connector because I use several. If you're into buying an M-Audio Interface, I would suggest the new C series or the Profire610 though.

I was sold the fast track pro. First had alot of trouble getting discs to load into a new lapton purchased just days before. There's no instruction manual to help with how to make it work. The help menu does not work at all.

Now find out I can't save anything to the laptop nor process music or burn to a cd. That's something else you have to buy. I spent good money for absolutely nothing that can do what I need to do. I was told when I bought it that I could do everything I asked for. Don't waste your money unless you got some extra to buy whatever else you have to buy to get this to work.
