From Posted June 13, 2003 at 2:53 PM Hello, I just went to these 3 parks for the first time during the first week of June. Here's the good, bad and ugly of each park.: The least favorite park on my trip. You have a good coaster in Superman Ride of Steel and also Batwing a flying coaster.
Thankfully the park wasn't that busy so we were able to get some good time on Superman, because Batman & Superman were shut down off and on throughout the day. Tower of Doom & Typhoon Sea Coaster were closed both days we were there. Tyhpoon looked old and run down, it needs the rehab. It had 2 decent wood coasters, but i'm not a wood coaster fan. A lot of new hype for Penguins Blizzard River, which it didn't live up to. It just spins you around in your boat without getting you wet and it's a short ride as well. The park was cleaner than i thought it would be so that was a plus.
The food and shopping at the park weren't worth the time. I bought no souvenirs and ate off site both days. My biggest complaint was some of the visitors to the park. It's amazing how some punks can bring down your day at the park.
They really need to get ALL their rides up and running, otherwise your in for a long day.: Great entrance with the fountains and Eiffel Tower in the background. John Deere Snow Blower Serial Number Year. Volcano the Blast Coaster was awesome and is wery well themed inside a volcano with fire shooting out the top. Drop Zone was a great addition at 300ft high. Quite a rush dropping at 70mph and it holds 64 people at a time.
Hypersonic was fun but frustrating as it kept breaking down all day, so we only rode it once each day. The skyflyer had a special all day pass for $25, so we rode that a bunch. The park also has some other good rides like Anacoda, Flight of Fear, a couple of woods, water rides, a nice kids area and a waterpark. The park was clean and had some decent shops. Definitely a fun park.: First off a very beautiful park, with great souvenir shops and fantastic eateries. Had a good breakfast at Squires Gallery and lunch at Grogans pub, where i had a big potato with ham carvings and cheese. The next day we ate at Trappers Smokehouse, which was fantastic.
Had the sampler with chicken, ribs, beef brisket, potatoes and roll. It was $13 but it will stuff you and tasted great. The different countries were beautifully themed and landscaped.
Apollos Chariot was a great ride with a very good restraint that left you feeling very free. Alpengeist was a fun coaster with a snow lodge theme. Big Bad Wolf was fun skimming the water and trees.
Loch Ness would be better if they change the restraints to a lap bar. Haunted Lighthouse 3d show was a disappointment. I was very impressed with this park.
In conclusion i loved BGW and PKD but SFA needs improvement. From Posted June 13, 2003 at 5:07 PM I am on the same boat you are. PKD and BGW are both really good parks.
It took me about two years to get to ride hypersonic XLC because every time I went the ride was eather not open of keeps breaking down making the lines really long. I got to go on it in october when no one was really there and i loved the ride. Sfa needs to do somthing with there rides. Every time I go Batwing always breaks down. The food is not good eather and they dont have really any shops there. I do like the shows though.
When I went in May I saw that new ride it wasn't open yet but it did not look any thing what they made it out to be. From Posted June 13, 2003 at 6:10 PM Adding myself to this, I have to agree with Marty and Maria on the evaluations of each of the three parks here in the Mid-Atlantic Region. Within the past year, I have had the opportunity to take in the best of what each of these parks had to offer. Although Six Flags America is called a 'Theme Park', I tend to say that it is actually in the 'Amusement Park' category. I beleive the category of 'Theme Park' describes attractions that have storylines, pre-shows, and physical themeing that provides a multi-dimension effect as you travel to various parts of the park. Settings in the woods, rides over pathways, hills, rivers, etc., keeping things just out of sight, and around the corner add to this.
I know SFA emphasizes the Warner Brothers, and D.C. Comics characters and such, but the marketing of it is too much in-your-face.
Busch Gardens doesn't push cans of beer at you when you exit a ride, or Kings Dominion doesn't try to sell DVDs while you wait. SFA is more of an open lot, with rides scattered about, and some pavement connecting them. That is definately an oversimplified statement, and don't get me wrong about the quality or anything, but I still enjoy going there to take in the thrills. I just tend to think that SFA is a great amusement park, rather than theme park.
On the other hand, Kings Dominion and Busch Gardens demonstrate the highest quality present in a genuine theme park. Every last detail is addressed in these parks. Rides are extremeley well-maintained and themed, the atmosphere is genuinely welcoming, and an emphasis is placed on guest comfort.
Eventhough ticket prices tend to be higher at parks such as these, it is money well spent because you soon forget how much you spent on the admission because you are immediately enveloped in a new world. Most find it relaxing, thrilling, or just all around enjoyable. My recent trip to PKD was enjoyable in all aspects and I left with nothing to complain about whatsoever. I hope to return to BG this summer and check out the Lighthouse, and enjoy the park again.
I will probably return to SFA, but it won't be to see Penguin's Blizzard River; water rides tend not to impress me enough to make special trips to see them. All three parks are great at what they do, but remember I classify SFA as an amusment park, wheras PKD & BG as theme parks.
