Simon Fischer Basics Ebook Download
I'm another fan of The Musician's Way. I have the kindle edition for bed time reading. As there are so many suggestions in the book, I am currently working with one. It is when I make a mistake I stop and play it correctly three times before moving on. I find the idea of programming good technique into my muscle memory somehow reassuring. It does not mean I always have a fabulous practice but it does mean that I achieve at least one meaningful piece of progress per session, even if it equates to a single bar!
Anne aMaudPowellFan Posted: April 10, 2012. Sean, I have very little time to practice. Between VL, teaching, and parenting, I often have zero time, so when I do practice, I have to be extremely efficient. I usually do left hand warm ups while doing other things, like read emails.

It takes my hand a good 10 to 15 minutes to get to the place where they start to feel good, and I don't want to spend my best focused mind waiting for the blood to circulate properly, so I sit and do finger taps a while, elbow propped on the table, until the digits feel spunky. I won't tell you what I don't practice anymore, or rarely practice, because I don't want to be a negative influence:^) But when I have the time to practice, I focus like crazy on one or two things. I'll make it my goal to polish, even if it's one phrase of music. I try and attend to every possible detail, every nuance, listening to myself 'sing' as if I were a famous opera singer. If we clutter our brains with noise (mentally making judgment remarks as we play), then it's hard to transcend.
That's what I'm trying to say. I try and transcend, even if it's for a few measures. Then it's fun to practice! Oh no.I hear 'frustration' in your email.' More bad days than good'!
Well this happens to us all, even those of us who have been playing for awhile.so your not along! You have company.:>).
Just recently I changed violin teachers and was a bit surprised at the end of the lesson when my new teacher turned to me and said.' So Diane, how do you practice at home?' Quickly I was trying to think of all the right words to say.well I.aaaa.try and spend each day practicing. Well in the morning.aaaa.so you can see where this is going! I had really forgotten what good practice was. Then she said something that just surprised me! Well she said, 'I want you to go home and think not of practice as work but practice to have fun.
So she showed me a list she had made up for me of the things that I needed to work on. (we had discussed on the phone area's that I needed help with and she took those and made up a list that would be my practice guide for the next week and a half. Two great things that she put on this list were: listen to CD's: find music that you like and see if you can play any of the notes or the open strings on one or more of the tunes.
Maybe you can try some harmony on the open strings.just have fun playing. This is an idea for listening and it's fun. The second one was: try to play some fiddle music off YouTube. Pick a genre of fiddling.Scottish, Irish, Texas Swing, Country, Old-Time Southern Mountains.the list is endless.
List to tune on UTube and see if you can remember any of the song and figure it out on the fingerboard of your violin. These are idea for relaxing with your instrument and making music. Axper Xp K7vm333 Manual Transfer. It can be a joy.
One thing that has helped me is a pdf file that Beth has on VL. Go to the resources page, click on PDF files and then click on and download the Practice Sheet. Fill in with what you need to spend time on and spend no more than 10 minutes on any one item. Spend only 20 minutes per practice session.this will help you to FOCUS and make it interesting. If your working on a piece in a particular scale then practice that scale and the arpeggios, I and V arpeggios of the scale.
I hope that helps.we all get grumpy sometimes with bad days.it's your job to keep those 'days' at bay and think of some fun things.like Beth mentioned above. Don't let your violin down.play happy! Diane in SoCal Beth Hyde Posted: April 9, 2012. Welcome to Violin Lab! I hear ya about practicing.
Everyone has something that works for them. I usually start out with scales then move on to Etudes. Beth has some wonderful progressive scale and etude books listed in the resource section. This is also the time that I work with drones. Beth has a recording of drones in the video section. When my fingers are warmed up and my head is in 'the zone' I will play my practice songs if it is Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday.
If it is Thursday, Friday, or Saturday I'll work on the hymns that will be sung in church on Sunday. I usually finish up with songs that I'm familiar with, sometimes I'll go back to scales and etudes. Somedays I need 'therapy days' instead of practice days. These are days that have been particularly difficult or I'm just out of sorts, or I'm just finding it difficult to focus on my practice.
On those days I play 'my songs' - just a little collection of songs that I've picked up from ear or old practice songs that I have come to enjoy. I simply play these for their enjoyment. Although I try to play with good intonation, correct fingerings, bowings etc, they are not my focus on 'therapy days'. These days are simply to get back in touch with music and to have fun. Sometimes I play the songs in different keys or try to put a new spin on them or learn other songs by ear. It often happens that this routine relaxes my mood, sets my feet on the ground and helps me regain my passion for the violin and I'm able to move on to practice.
