Region Hack Samsung Bd C6500 Owners

User manual for the device Samsung BD-C6500. The Samsung BD-C6500 user manual. Outside your region may not be playable with this BD. Aug 08, 2014 Samsung BD-H6500 - region free code/hack? Suggests) A Samsung BDH6500 and so far it's very good. My only issue now is that I want to play some region 1.

Anyone picked up a 2014 Samsung BD-H6500 player yet? Why Good Guys have it listed as clearance is probably a typo US page Manual Introducing Samsung Smart Blu-ray™ H6500, the next generation of player designed for the arrival of UHD resolution. Enjoy apps built for TV, stream your favorite content and upscale everything you watch. • Step Up Your Experience with Samsung Smart Blu-ray™ • Upscale Every Disc to Near UHD Quality with UHD Upscaling • Get Recommendations, Explore Apps and Much More • Stream Your Favorite Music Throughout the House with SHAPE™ Multiroom If you have one can you multizone it like the F6500 and also change the county for the smart hub? Edit: New looking home screen.

Picked up one of these today. Took advantage of JB's 50% of Blu Rays with the purchase of a Blu Ray player. The 50% off deal was pretty good. Stocked up on a few things I had been looking at for a while and a few others that I didn't really need. They wouldn't discount the player though.

First dedicated Blu Ray player I have owned. Previously used to use a PS3. First impressions: - Picture is great - Smart options are very responsive and fast to load up 'catchup' services - Media streaming from my WD My Cloud is very smooth - Noisy when playing a Blu Ray disc (compared with PS3). If you have one can you multizone it like the F6500 and also change the county for the smart hub? G'day Everybody I am new on Whirlpool, so please forgive me if I have violated some rules.

I have DVDs and Blurays of different regions and I need to buy a player that allows me to play these discs. I am currently using 'Laser' bluray player and I am interested in buying Samsung BD-H6500 for my recently purchased Samsung 3D TV. 1) in addition to the 'Laser' brand, is there any other bluray 3D players that are region free? It plays discs from any region without having to change the region code of the player? To owners of Samsung BD-H6500 bought in Australia and being used in Australia, 2) have you succeeded in changing the DVD region code of BD-H6500?

Please advise instructions if you have succeeded in doing so. I need to change region code from time to time depending on the region code of the DVD I am about to view. 3) have you succeeded in changing the Bluray region code of BD-H6500? Please advise instructions if you have succeeded in doing so. Again, I need to change region code from time to time depending on the region code of the Bluray I am about to view. 4) is there any limit on the number of times you can change the region code of BD-H6500?

Your advice will be highly appreciated. Confirming earlier posters region change is the same as for BD F6500: 1. With empty disc tray power on 2 open and close the disc tray 3. Wait until 'no disc' appears in top right corner of screen 4. As soon as ' no disc' disappears: Press ' repeat' button on remote and then enter 76884 5. When you see 4 in top right corner press 9 6.

Power off Code needs to be entered very quickly Can be repeated until you get it. For App Store region change: 1.Power on 2.On main menu screen – the first screen you see once you turn DVD player on- and with empty disc tray, Press >>289. I bought one of these units yesterday and can advise - - there was a major firmware update available immediately. - the DVD region free code described above works on the latest firmware. - local apps include ABC iView, SBS, i7, bigpond movies, AFL game analyser, NBL. - Tenplay is NOT currently available as an app, but works through the browser. - The browser is a bit clunky and slow to respond but seems to support most websites quite well, at least that I have tried.

- I neither know nor care if C9 catch up works. I did not notice an app for it. - Microsoft wireless keyboard and mouse works with it well. - Using the on-screen keyboard with the the remote is a bit f r u s t r a t i n g. - Screen sharing works well with the native screen cast on my Google Nexus 7 (2013 version). - DLNA works well from my NAS server. - I have the unit hard wired so have not tried streaming over wireless.

Overall I am pretty happy with it so far. Can't wait for our fibre NBN connection, due in the next few months, so I can actually effectively use some of the online streaming which is currently extremely patchy on ADSL2+. I know all this has been posted, but there's weight in numbers when it comes to implementing changes and if it's not working for you it's a case of persisting because these definitely work. I bought a BD 6500 in August and have a SamSung UAM40F6400 TV that is now about 2 years old. I successfully 'de-regionalised' the BD 6500 as per the above instructions but I cannot get either the BD 6500 or the SamSung TV to do the App Store region change within their Smart Hubs. I do keep both machines up to date with the latest patches from SamSung so I am starting to wonder if they have blocked the App Store region change function. Any comments much appreciated.

I have this unit and have a very strange problem. All my dvds and BDs play back perfectly but '.mov' files shot with a dashcam at 1920 X 1080 and burned to a data disc are not playing back at full res. My TV is a Samsung ES7500 and the H6500 is connected to it via HDMIi.

If I copy the same files to a USB thumb drive and connect it to the same TV via its USB port, the files play back perfectly! I even took the files directly back from the DVD to make sure that the burning of the disc wasn't the problem. I also have a HiMedia 900B media player and that too can't play the raw files back at full resolution via HDMI After a few weeks at trying to find a solution, I noticed the 'info' button on that 900B tells me that the files were shot and running at 30fps. I am in Sydney and the TV is of course correctly set to run at 50hz. The dash cam has an option in the menu for 50 or 60hz and is set to 50hz.

If this is the problem, why do the same files play back perfectly via the ES7500's USB port and incorrectly via the HDMI input? I'm really happy with this model – interface is snappy and the media player is quite good. My issue however is that it seems the standard smart TV samsung iOS app doesn't work with this unit. I was hoping to find a remote control for my iphone for this, seems like there are lots of junky looking 3rd party apps – many pay for – can someone recommend a (preferably) free iOS app that works? Also interested in Android apps that support it as I have a tablet I use much less frequently, but good to get it on there if it works. I am having an issue with a recently bought BD-H6500.

It is connected by HDMI to a samsung series 8 UHD and for a couple of weeks there was no issue at all. Recently however the Blu Ray player has stopped playing audio for Blu Ray movies only. Audio works fine for youtube and normal dvd's and only seems confined to not playing blu ray dvd's sound. The Blu Ray player has the latest update but I am not sure what settings still need to be changed. Digital Output is set to PCM Any ideas would be appreciated. Am having exactly the same problem.

Worked fine for a week or so but then lost the sound only on BD discs that previously worked ok. Samsung put a new board in the player but still the same – no sound on my series 8 UHD.

Non BD discs work just fine and the H6500 also works ok on cheap Aldi TV. Samsung tech coming tomorrow to check after spending hr today with Samsung support doing upgrades and resets without luck. What I have done is reset the TV and BD will get its sound back until you turn tely off and back on and it recreates the problem so I suggest its a problem with perhaps the last TV update. Will post again after Samsung tech has had a look. Getting an issue – when playing AVIs via plex, USB, HDD etc – the movie will sometimes restart half way.

Does this happen to others? Yeah I only started getting this back when I did the last firmware update in start of November. There are a few references to this issue on the net that have identified this as a firmware issue – looks like Sammy released a new FW for this yesterday, Version: 1107.2 dated 2014.12.16. I don't know where to find release notes, but I'll upgrade and hope this solves the problem as it pretty much makes it unusable for this format the way it currently behaves. For me it is happening on other formats too. Keen to know what your experience is like after the upgrade, I'll report back mine once I've had a chance to test in the next week or so.

I can confirm the AVI restart problem STILL HAPPENS on the new 16-Dec-2014 firmware. That's bad news indeed. In terms of the downgrade it looks like there was a proof of concept on how to do it for some Samsung bluray players, but don't believe H series is included. However, I believe if you select to do a factory reset from the settings menu it goes back to the original firmware – perhaps that's worth a shot. The only thing that annoys me about that is how long it takes to setup network etc using the remote so I haven't attempted this yet. But if you get a chance let us know how that goes! Getting an issue – when playing AVIs via plex, USB, HDD etc – the movie will sometimes restart half way.

Does this happen to others? I bought a new H6500 recently, and upgraded to the pre-16th update. I have noticed this fault several times over the course of the week. The box also loses its place in the video, so you can't simply resume play. FF only has three settings, so it can be a little tedious finding your place in a longer movie. Plex and Serviio work pretty well though. Now I just need a decent TV to get the most out of this box!:-) Edit: I see the fault as stopping completely part-way through playback, hanging on a black screen until I interact with the remote.

Not sure if this is the same problem others are having. For me it's both usb and plex. Haven't tried any other dlna player (not sure if there is a built in one). I've found numerous references on the net to suggest the fault is regardless of whether USB or streamed. Example is here – there is quite a few complaints of the same on some foreign forums that i've had to use google Translate for, and they report problem on both usb and streamed. They want me to send in a USB stick with an AVI file.

I don't think they will care about the source since I'm sure it's a 'backup' of your legit owned content:-) anyway, thanks for chasing it up with them! Hello, I've been a long time reader of this forum researching everything from musical instruments to bikes to home DIY projects and everything in between and have been reading this post since buying a Samsung HT-H6550WM home theatre set up a few days ago. Download Windows Xp Sp3 64 Bit Iso Original on this page. I'm interested in unlocking the region to play overseas dvds and have read the instructions posted here numerous times, but am unsure as to how people are unlocking their system as the remote control does not have a 'repeat' button, nor even any actual number buttons on the remote. It's a pretty small remote with very few buttons on it.

Can anyone please further explain? In general I don't know much about how the 'Smart Hub' works. Would I be able to download/stream movies and shows from certain apps directly from the Blu-ray player itself via the wireless Wi-Fi?

If so what apps would allow me to do this here in Austarila? And how does the payment for such services work? Also would the said movies/shows that you buy via downloading/streaming in the Smart Hub play in 5.1 surround sound if the Blu-Ray player is connected to my home theater system? Hi You are able to stream movies/videos in different ways: 1) Locally on the device via USB (Just browse it and play – this includes FULL frame-packed 3D files (HSBS works in any case but gives you a lower quality 3D than frame packing would give you). I have a 2T USB drive that works fine for this. 2) You can also stream via WIFI/LAN cable but for this I use the Plex app from the Samsung app store (Free). This connects to my UNRaid NAS server (Old PC) that is running Plex Media Server (Also free).

3) You can also utilise all the FTA apps (Seven, Ten, ABC, SBS etc.) to stream catchup FTA. 4) You can also switch region, install Netflix app, use something like Getflix and stream via a monthly subscription. Can't help much with this though as I don't use it. (Netflix will be in OZ in March I think negating the requirement for region switching and things like Getflix).

The are various other apps like Quickflix, Bigpond Movies etc. That provides subscription based content.just depend what you after. If the source content is 5.1 and you are connected to a proper AV receiver, you'll get 5.1 surround (Kinda logical.) Great device and with the ability to play full 3D frame packing content via local USB or streaming via Plex is just great. R Thank you so much for this terrific anwser. My HDTV doesn't have 3D capabilities nor 4K capabilities, but the various apps and things you can do from the Smart Hub does peak my interest. The general reviews for this Samsung BD-H6500 seem to be pretty favorable both on the performance front and on the online frout, so I am defenetely keen on buying one. My current Soniq QPB301B Blu-Ray player doesn't offer such features and it doesn't do a good job at upscaling DVDs, so this Samsung BD-H6500 should be a nice upgrade and comes with the future proofing of 3D and 4K upscaling as well.

Where did you buy yours? And how much did you pay for it mate? Thanks again for your help. Berry81 – are able to confirm whether the region free code for DVDs which has previously been posted here still works with the latest firmware? UPDATE: for those still in the market, I picked up the H6500 today at Costco for 124.99 (134.99 ticket price with a $10 additional in store discount today). Can post receipt if required. For those having issues with firmware update 1107, I updated immediately and the most recent is 1106.3.

Seems 1107 has been removed. Daeseon – I was able to utilize the region free code previously listed here with no issues. The remote your describe does not appear to be the same as the one I got with my device. I would check it is the right remote. I've checked and definitely got the correct remote with it, I'm guessing the blu-ray player and the blu-ray home theatre system have different remotes as mine does not have a repeat button nor any number buttons at all. Does anyone else have the Samsung Series 6 5.1 Channel 3D Blu-ray Home Theatre System HTH6550WM with the small remote and do you know how to make it region free for dvds? I have a couple of minor questions. 1: If I pause a file streaming from my PC via wireless, pop out for a cig, come back, and continue viewing, the file will play for a short while, then hang, requiring me to restart the video.

Darn only having 3 levels of FF!:-) Anyone finding similar? Possible solutions? 2: How do I switch default subtitles to Off when viewing? I can't find an option in any menu, and it's a minor annoyance to have to do it manually each time I start a new viewing session. Streaming from Serviio, variety of file types.

Problems do not arise with WDTVSMP in the bedroom, which makes me think it's the BD causing these problems. I've checked and definitely got the correct remote with it, When you say you have checked, how did you check? From what you describe the remote you have is the same as the one that came with my Sammy TV. Small with few buttons and tapered at the end that is nearest you. What you should have received is a full sized remote in the 'traditional' sense. A picture of it is on page 8 of the H6500 user manual. If you only have the small one (by mistake I would guess) you will be in for a lot of trouble as there are way too many important buttons you will need that are missing.

Not just repeat, but the various title menus, tools, info, subtitle, audio, full screen and the four coloured buttons that vary in function depending on what's happening. Apologies for this rather basic question, but I'm thinking of buying a blu-ray player to replace my old and now inadequate DVD player and I'm looking for a short cut to some knowledge, having never used blu-ray and only just getting to know a smart 3D TV. I recently bought a smart TV (Samsung UA40H6400). Is there an advantage to the BD-H6500 that I don't already have, or would the BD-H5500 be just as good as an adjunct to my TV? As afar as I can see online, there's about $50 difference ($100 vs $150) in current prices. I recently bought a smart TV (Samsung UA40H6400).

Is there an advantage to the BD-H6500 that I don't already have, or would the BD-H5500 be just as good as an adjunct to my TV? I believe one of the main differences is h6500 has full smart TV like operating system where as the other models have only very limited apps and a 'dumber' Opera-based operating system. The other difference is no wireless in the 5500. Given your TV will have full Samsung app store and wireless there is probably a lot of duplication you don't need. Both should play bluray (including 3d) fine and seem to be highly rated for this capability. Does anyone have problems with screen mirroring? I've bought this unit specifically for this feature to use with my Galaxy S4 or 10.1 note, but it doesn't seem to work at all.

I enter the screen mirroring feature on the player and it shows a ready message on the screen but neither the phone nor the tablet sees anything to send is screen to. I know is not the phone or tablet because I can successfully screen mirror to a friend's smart tv. Help from samsung is appalling. I just get some guy guiding me through the same manual that I have.

I would appreciate it if someone can confirm that this actually works. Picked one up this week and was able to apply the region-free setting. However, I have a European Snowpiercer Blu-Ray (the deluxe version) which steadfastly refuses to switch to English, even though English is on the disc. Every time I attempt to switch audio or subtitles, the menu with all the language options appears, but as soon as I try to arrow to it, the player pops up a 'Your disc is not supported' message. The DVD bundled with the BluRay works fine.

I tried switching my country to UK but that didn't make any difference (other than changing the Smart Hub). No idea what 24P is.I will have a read about it. I will be connecting this Blue Ray player to a Benq W1070, will 24P make a difference? I have the same projector. Watching movies at 60Hz will introduce judder to all forms of motion in the frame. I can't handle it, especially on such a large screen. 24P/23.976FPS/hz is more ideal.

I'll let you know about the optical cable thing once I purchase one. It looks like only Harvey Norman in my town have stock. The Good Guys and JB are selling for $166 but neither store here has em:(. Does this player output DD/DTS 5.1 sound through its optical output when running Netlix (for titles where its available)? Confirmed just now running latest firmware. Netflix is fantastic on this player! Playing Captain America at the moment 1080p 24p with 5.1DD via Optical.

This has to be one of the very few players for Netflix that has Refresh Rate detection. It will load the stream and switch refresh rates to match the stream. BBC's Human Planet runs at 50hz for example because it's a PAL 25FPS stream. Happy buyer here:).

I am really strapped for spare cash at the moment so checked Seconds World when my old Kogan 3D player started acting up (with no firmware available for update). Found that Seconds world (Sydney, AU) had a limited number of 'factory refurbished' store demo H6500 models for $89. Got one yesterday and am very happy. Just a few tiny scratches on the top of the unit. Full warranty. Only downside is that it has made my Chromecast device redundant now as I only used it for Netflix and watching a few YouTube clips. Both apps seem to play smoother and with better resolution on my pre-and-presently loved Samsung H6500.

Does anyone have a copy or link to Ver 1106.3 Firmware for the BD-H6500? I am using my player solely to stream Foxtel Play. Unfortunately, Ver 1109 released a few days ago has totally broken the Foxtel Play service.

I have given up trying to get Foxtel to sort out this mess, so wish to attempt downgrading the firmware. Having searched the internet for several hours in desperation this evening, I am unable to find this version on any archival sites. Samsung only allow the latest version to be downloaded. Would greatly appreciates any assistance. Does anyone have a copy or link to Ver 1106.3 Firmware for the BD-H6500? I'm almost certain it is not possible to downgrade the firmware on this device.

When there were issues with the media playback after a firmware upgrade I looked into it and was sadly dissapointed. Fortunately they have fully fixed the media playback issues with the new firmware, but it was at least 2.5 months of waiting. There was a proof of concept for downgrading firmware but this only worked for older models and looks to be an abandoned project () So, I'd suggest the only thing you can do is to wait for a new firmware to come out and hope that it fixes it (which it mightn't) unless Foxtel release a new version of the app to workaround the issue.

I've had my BD-H6500 for a week now and it wouldn't load any Apps via WiFi connection. Network info said I was connected to the Internet. The only internet service that would connect was the web browser but the other video related apps such as YouTube, movie Apps etc just displayed 'loading'. I'm assuming it was something to do with stability and strength of the WiFi signal.

I ended up turning the machine off and then on and the Apps then loaded and worked OK. Anyone else experienced this sort of issue? – it will be annoying if I have to keep rebooting the machine. Great reading your posts, got this player this week from 2nds world for $89 on ebay ($15 posted regionally) Just a quick question, sorry if I have missed it if someone has already asked.

Is the home screen customisable? I know I can add favorite apps to the 3 on the home screen but wondering if I can move or re-organise anything else. I mainly use it for DVD/BD and DLNA server to WD my cloud. I found to get to the mycloud (network storage) there were a lot of menu processes. Is there a way to short cut this? Im even thinking of investigating a list of commands for my Logitech universal remote. However Im sure that someone has figured out a better way.

How does this unit go with playing xvid files in.avi format? How does it go playing h264/x264 files in both mkv and.mp4 containers? The start of this thread suggested issues with xvid/avi files playing.

Is this sorted out on the models currently being sold. Yes, all these issues appear to be resolved since the 1108.2 update. I haven't had an issue with any of those formats since then, and I've played a variety of formats in different containers, all good.

I'm going to adopt the philosophy of 'it it ain't broke' and not apply any further firmware updates to this unless I need to for some other reason. It's running just great now. Just got one of these, the most annoying feature is not being able to disable the screensaver.

Most apps are ok and dont go into screensaver mode however we use quikflix alot and its annoying hang to press a button every 5 mins. If assuming the quikflix app has to implement some sort disable screensaver flag BUT not sure why samsung doesnt offer an option to disable screensaver.

I emailed support and received: 'This is the default functionality and it can not altered. ' response seen in other internet forums. Had a sony player and didnt happen with that however the samsung can play more video types etc.cant win it seems.hesitant to be either in the future tbh. What are the alternatives?

Maybe just get a ps4 and use that as media centre? The player has GREAT picture quality. But its on the buggy side all round. Ive just sideloaded SPMC 14.2 on my Amazon fire tv and use it to play streams.

Nice smooth playback for stANDARD.mkv'S.just got to be careful to keep the stream under 20Mbps or it can get choppy. But you need some pretty big encodes to hit that. Ps4 would be good. But i cant get the plex app on there to see my pc for some reason. Looney Tunes Back In Action Full Movie In Hindi Free Download more.

I cant get the plex app on my Samsung to see it either. But both my roku 3 and fire tv both plex apps connect fine. Its slower loading then say a roku or fire tv. It has GREAT image quality when playing netflix and is one of the few players that switch output to match the source.(24p) You wouldn't be too disappointed with this player for netflix. I've reverted to my fire tv for now.

As i just find it easier and quicker to get going. Its probably as good as it gets for netflix blu ray player wise. Ive owned an oppo bdp103a and an lg BP740 and the samsung trumps them quite easily.

But for quick access to netflix and other streaming apps. You can't go past a roku or fire tv or even an apple tv in my opinion. Im a fickle bastard!

Change my mind constantly. Im still looking for the perfect do it all player myself.

Howdy all, Does anyone else been having intermittent loss of image and sound for around 3 seconds when playing a Blu-ray disc? I have version 1111.0 straight out of box. I have tried 3 different HDMI cables and problem still occurs. I put a USB in the front slot with a movie on it – same problem. If I slightly wriggle the HDMI cable the image/sound will disappear, so thought it must a connection fault in the unit. (also have tried on a different model Samsung Blu-ray player and no problem exists when trying the same 3 HDMI cables) I have disconnected/connected all attached cords/cables also. Took it back to Good Guys and was sent for repair – repairer couldn't find a problem but replaced the motherboard anyway.

Get it home and same problem still occurs. Any thoughts of other possibilities? Otherwise I'm thinking to return it again but asking for refund to purchase another brand – whether they will come to that, I don't know. Hi all Came across something strange tonight with this player.

Was settling in to watch Dredd 3D. The Blu-Ray have both the 3D and the 2D versions on the same disk with the option to select which one you want to watch om the main menu. The BD-H6500 refuses to play the 3D one but the 2D one just works fine.anyone experienced this before?! Very annoying as I really bought it for the 3D! Looks like the Player is struggling to detect the projector as a 3D target via HDMI. Got it working after forcing the projector to 3D and playing around with the settings on the player.

Anyone else have this problem? I bought one yesterday because we had a lightning strike last Sunday that damaged 4 PC's and all the HT except the TV and it replaces a dead BD-F6500. I have been using my PC as an interim media player but on Monday it goes to a PC repairer for assessment and insurance quote so I got the BD-H6500 as a quick and easy replacement while we have nothing else. I tried an MKV file on the BD-H6500 and it said 'not supported', it's a MKV file with H264 video and AC3 sound which are all supported on page 55 of the manual but then I read page 56 and found this. Supports up to H.264 Level 4.1. (Does not support FMO/ASO/RS) After some googling I found this and seems to be about the maximum frame rate for a given resolution. Running mediainfo on my file gives me this.

Format profile: High@L5.1 I found a MKV file I created in August last year and it is at Level 4 and does play. I use ffmpeg for encoding and it looks like the default level increases with each new version, I have now found the parameters to force ffmpeg to Level 4.1 but I now need to re-encode all the files we will be watching on the BD-H6500 until the insurance is through and we get a new media player. What I am getting at is this player, like most media players, usees hardware decoding for playing files and they are very unforgiving if the file does not meet its standards. HELP PLEASE-- Standard DVD Playback issue- Cinavia Warning.

Sister Just bought one of these last week along with her new 60'UHD Samsung TV, when trying to play Bali bought DVD's after about 10min of play a warning text box pops up saying basically- Audio output temporarily muted. Content being played is protected by Cinavia and is not authorised for playback on this device. Message code 3.

The advise given here of 10 min usage with a 10 min gap makes watching the movie totally impractical. She has no bluray discs but many Aust and Bali bought SD DVDs. Doesn't cause the problem on Aust bought discs.

Gonna be messed up if she has to return the player and get a non bluray one and then let the TV try and upscale the signal to hd or uhd. From what I am reading this Cinavia is mandatory on all bluray players from 2012 and is a B!@#$%^&* to try and bypass. Software exists to do it on a PC BD player only. Anyone else having this problem or know how to stop this Cinavia licence protection by turning off the detector in this H6500 player?? Not expecting Samsung service centre to be of any help. I've had no replies but JB HiFi reduced their brand new stock of the BD-H6500 last night by $50 from $166 down to $116 so I've grabbed one. Can't go too far wrong when it's that price.

No one will be buying their refurbished ones ($129) until their new ones sell out now! Thought I'd note this here in case anyone thinking of buying one checks out or is already watching this thread. Best price I've seen for a brand new one from an official Samsung retailer (so you get Samsung service under warranty). But if anyone can reply to my previous posts, they'd be really helpful still. I'd also like to know if there's any problems viewing catch up TV via the browser from free to air networks for which there's no apps. For reading this thread it looks like Tenplay and 9Now (formerly 9jumpin).

And maybe others if there app doesn't work well. Thanks I don't use the Australian Apps, I changed the region on the BD-H6500 to US to get the US Apps as I use Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Instant Video. The BD-H8500AXY that I just bought, even changing to US, Hulu and Amazon Instant Video are not on it as currently the device doesn't support this unit for some reason.

I've changed back to the Australian Apps and tested and all works fine. I don't use the browser on these things. 2ndsworld have it brand new for $109! I bought it when it was $125 and a week later, of course, the price is reduced! Bargain if you ask me!

I asked 2ndsWorld about the warranty on the brand new ones and they said they were not a Samsung authorised retailer (guess they get them indirectly in fire sales or whatever). So Samsung won't recognise their receipts with regards to warranty issues. So if there's a problem in the warranty period 2ndsworld deal with it themselves in-house like they do for the refurbished ones. They'd pay for the postage back to them to fix and then return it to you. Camrock told me he had a good experience when he had to return a faulty refurbished BD-H6500 to them with a happy outcome.

The glitch happened ¾ way through a movie so he a bit concerned that before they declared it was glitch free they may not have played a movie that long and as he had discovered preferred Sony's menu system he bought a refurbished one of theirs and got a refund from 2ndsworld – less a 10% restocking fee. He was happy/prepared to pay that for having learnt the he preferred Sony over Samsung. So I thought I'd point out the JB HiFi deal to this thread as it is the cheapest I've seen from a standard retailer that would have a normal Samsung warranty. Taking it to your local Samsung Service Centre/Agent if there's a problem rather than having to post it to Sydney is a lot more convenient. And my local store had stock so no postage costs on top. Just need to pick it up now.

It's on sale at JB HiFi Sale until the 28th. Thanks for the feedback about apps/browser, helpful/useful to know. HELP PLEASE-- Standard DVD Playback issue- Cinavia Warning. This blu-ray player overzealous with the Cinavia warning. DONT BUY this player.

The advantages of this player are: PLEX app Stan television app disadvantages: Cinavia seems to be more prominent on this player. The front screen cant be adjust!

What the hell The start up screen looks like an Instore display! What the hell! I want to have my favourite apps on teh front screen Also the app store is Not the popular app store The more popular app store 'Opera Tv' DONT BUY THIS PLAYER. Not much response to new threads for the BD-H8500 so doubt starting a new thread for that will get much response either. I've got a BD-H6500 then bought a second hand BD-H8500 for it's full web browser but found it won't play video either.

As neither have apps for 9 or 10 network's catch up TV thought would be able to watch using the browser but they won't play, just sit there frozen. If anyone has any ideas if it's possible to get it to work (on either) I'd appreciate it. Also would like to know if the Microsoft wireless all-in-one media keyboard is compatible with either of both of these as using the remote is just a pain but don't want to buy something that's not compatible. Any thoughts much appreciated. Thanks Oh and REF007 not used series recording on the BD-H8500 despite it always asking if you want to.

That's because I saw advice here that it's a pain as it will record any repeats as well – which for some shows can be a few and also old repeats of same show so can end up with heaps of unwanted recordings. But if you have a clash (want to record a third show at same time) it's good at suggesting alternatives to the show you want to record or for shows already set to record so you can record at another time to free up the clash timeslot. But you'd need to confident it is a repeat of the show your interested in and not a repeat of other/past episodes by checking the (rather slow and awkward) EPG. Thanks for your feedback on the BD-H8500. Do you know if you select to record a series whether it knows to record the show if the time changes. For example, you record '60 Minutes' as a series and it starts at 7:30pm on Sunday, then is on at 8:00pm the following Sunday.

Is it smart enough to identify the time change and record it correctly? Thanks for your feedback on the BD-H8500. Sorry for delayed response OzRex, not been on Whirlpool much and didn't look at this thread till now. I haven't used series record but even if you have set a one off record and you're viewing TV via the BD-H8500 or watching a previous recording before that recording is due to start you get pop up boxes asking if you want to check if start time of program has changed by tuning into that particular station. I can be annoying actually.

But not sure if it checks it automatically when you're not using it. I will check that out for you if I get a chance sometime but don't hold your breath. Mine isn't connected to an antenna at the moment – I'm mucking about with a straight PVR (not combo) at the moment to organise it for my elderly parents. Same brand and format/file format as one I've got so can instruct them over phone how to use/record as they don't retain much unless they do it everyday and need to be talked through nearly every time and I can put records on a USB stick for them to view if they miss/fail to record something they really want – can't get them to watch online!! I personally don't like the pvr/dvr menu system of the BD-H8500 much, others haven't complained about it so I think it's just my preference though – I must be too used to my old pvr's menu system so thinking of selling the Samsung combo player on eBay/gumtree and just going with separate blu-ray player and pvr/dvrs.

Hello Read well before doing these hack. This device is sold in Australia as a locked region 4 DVD and region B Blue-ray player. There is no current procedure for unlocking the Blue-ray and it is probably not necessary because over 80% of released disks are region free anyway.

To change the DVD from region 4 (Pacific/Australia) to region 9 (region free) follow these steps using the remote control. Ensure that there is no disk in the tray. Switch the player off and then back on. This is necessary to clean-boot the firmware.

Wait until the main menu page appears and the player stops doing anything. Press the eject button to open the tray. (The button is between the 'Power' and 'TV Power' buttons at the top of the controller.) 5.

Press the eject button to close the tray. Wait while the player searches for a disk. As soon as the 'No Disk' message appears at the top left corner do the following. Press the REPEAT button - just above the TV channel selector at the bottom right of the controller. Enter 7 6 8 8 4 on the number pad.

The region code '4' should appear at the top left corner of the screen. Enter a '9' to make the player region free. (Enter a region code if you want to lock the player to another region for some obscure or perverse reason.) 12. Power down and power up again.

Play a foreign DVD to verify the change. Now the tricky bits.

This process is timing dependent. Firstly, you must start entering the code just after the 'No Disk' message is shown and before the message disappears.

If you jump the gun or miss the boat (isn't English great!) it won't work. Secondly, the REPEAT key is part of the code. All six keys must be entered smoothly as 'REPEAT 7 6 8 8 4'. The entry gets timed out so you can't stop in the middle and restart. Don't bash away like crazy, just do it smoothly and briskly. If you don't see the '4' the first time, don't worry.

Just repeat the process. It took me about a dozen tries before I got it to work. I can't guarantee that this player does not have a region change counter so I would be a bit careful about changing regions back and forth. I also can't guarantee that this will work with all released firmware. Samsung seems to take this crazy region bastardry very seriously for some reason.

For people from other parts of the world, all region codes are as follows 1 - 2 9 3 3 4 2 - 5 7 5 3 8 3 - 5 6 7 3 2 4 - 7 6 8 8 4 5 - 5 3 8 1 4 6 - 2 4 4 6 2 Posted on Nov 21, 2010.
