That's what my incompatible drives do, but I don't know what all you've done. To get dios mios to work for me I installed the dios mios wad. Then I had to use the program update inside cfg usb loader updating from 70 to 70r15.

Then exit out and program update again this time to 70r65 or 70r64 which ever was at the top. I've had three external drives not work for me, but all three were usb 3.0 which has a higher power output. So I think they weren't initializing fast enough for dios mios, but that just a guess.

I've had a lot of luck with 5400rpm laptop drives with an external enclosure. I use a coolmax enclosure, and just found 320gb 2.5' hard drive off craigslist for $20. Average wii game so far has been 4gb or less.

The biggest so far for me have been metroid trilogy and smash bros. I think gamecube games are 1.4gb or less.
