I hope somone posts this on sc forum. -No more Eud which means no more creative ums like random tower def, super mario, one punch man, or kpop defense.
These UMS were very important part of fish server and sc community. We had thousands playing random tower defense and other trendy ums every month. Now that EUD is gone, UMS community is SHATTERED. There's only outdated ones.
-Hotley inputs are slow. Pros said whenever they hotkey a group of units or buildings really fast the hotkey does not register. - Effort said mutas feel very heavy and feels very hard to micro. - mouse feels very heavy compared to 1.16 - B.net interface is HORRIBLE. Swap Magic 3 8 Ps2 Iso Converter. On ladder channel you can't spam whispers to people in ladder and instead you have to manually type their ids to send them msg to ladder.
The process of creating also feels very slos. Overall Ui looks ugly and not clickable.
-No gamma correction to adjust screen lighting. This makes sc screen dark - no /f m /f l /w in game - this is big. You can't seem to create passworded game for your friend to come in. Your friend will get INVALID password even if your friend typed it out correctly. -game lan is bad. Seems slower than normal #l2.
I really hope blizzard fixes these issues. These are HUGE.

Nah not to crash hype trains, but StarCraft won't gain serious popularity. RTS doesn't interest many people today, it simply isn't trendy. Then there is the issue of StarCraft's (some are artificial, others are caused by the bugs of the engine) mechanical difficulties. Currently I'm playing through the campaign, and after having to deal with Goliath and Dragoon pathfinding, I have to say that very few people will see the fun in it. Don't get me wrong, these things definitely have their benefits, battles look fantastic compared to the sequel, overall, when StarCraft II is considered to be over-the-top-difficult, StarCraft will not gain popularity.
You don't have to 'fight the UI' in BW, it just does less for you. It's pretty obvious from the tone of your post that you personally don't care for it, but let's keep a level head here.
And the 'quality of life' features that people are asking for are outside of the realm of game mechanics, so Blizzard could totally add them and people would be fine with it. Even customizable hotkeys, I have seen plenty of people say they wouldn't use them, but I don't recall seeing anybody say that they shouldn't be an option.
So yes, Blizzard definitely could introduce quality of life improvements like better chat features, easy matchmaking, a proper ladder, etc., without anybody complaining that the game has been 'tainted'. I appreciate you response and you are right, it was a bit of a poor attitude comment on top of another poor attitude comment. TortoiseGod's comment was overall pretty fair and reasonable comment.
I also agree that the quality of life changes outside of the game should be considered. If a new RTS came out and did not have custom keys it would be marked as a big criticism and the real advantage of custom keys is preference and ergonomics.
Blizzard have not been clear about some of these issues, why custom keys have disappeared when it was previously confirmed? Or at least implemented within the PTR.
I've seen a few comments about the idea that custom keys are a bad idea but honestly they could just be trolls, I think any reasonable person agrees custom keys are for the best. While talking about the game being tainted or 'purist' players may be a bit extreme there are lots of players who have taken these issues very seriously. I personally do not enjoy the idea of BW:R and hope that the players who are looking forward to it can enjoy it. 1.16 isn't going anywhere and ultimately its Blizzard decision for 1.18 forwards so they should do what they think is best and hopefully the players can enjoy the result.
I hear what you are saying. SC:R is for people who love BW just the way it is and want to keep playing it just the way it was, but would appreciate better compatibility and higher def graphics and the QoL stuff previously mentioned. The same 20 year old game with basically only an aesthetic upgrade is not going to be everyone's cup of tea. To be honest I agree with you about the comment made. SC:R will give the original a nice boost, but it's most likely not going to take off in a major way. I still remember when everyone I played SC2 with switched to LoL, and never looked back. RTS is just a genre that a lot of people find mentally taxing, and that will be a huge barrier for RTS to overcome before it can ever take competitive gaming by storm again.
Maybe it's just a matter of semantics, but I do see a difference between having to 'fight' the UI, and the UI simply doing less for you. That being said, I am a little confused by your examples.
The original StarCraft does have tooltips. They aren't verbose, but they give you some basic info.
Also spells are greyed out when you haven't researched them yet, so also greying them out when you simply don't have enough energy would be confusing and ambiguous. Besides, of all the things that make the original StarCraft difficult for beginners, I don't think lack of tooltips or greying out of spells you don't have mana for would be at the top of anyone's list.
I've been on fish server - the same minilauncher for brain clan works on fish server.
